Saving an image tagged with a parameter

I would like to know how to save an image into the buffer tagged with a parameter that I calculate.

Here is what I have as of now: Read an image and calculate a quality parameter for the image. Then save this image into the buffer.

I would like to be able to tag this saved image with the quality parameter.
