how to import .csv file in Matlab having text in it??

How we can import the .csv file on Matlab which also have text in it??.. I have tried it but it import the spreadsheet in matlab??? How can I use it?? what should I do?? I need to have data in the form of matrix after importing the .csv file in Matlab....

Plz explain the procedure...

This is a cheat, that works:

 [numbers text, everything] = xlsread('filename.csv');
