How to give the variable name of a large dataset to a table

I have an .xlsm file and am storing the text and numbers in separate variable ,now i want to make a table with that such that i can directly input the variable names

into the table from the stored text.Can anyone please help instead of manually typing the variable names,how can i represent it directly in a table

Once you have created the table T (let it default to whatever variable names it wants for the moment), then

T.Properties.VariableNames = NAMES;

where NAMES is either a cell array of character vectors, or else a string() array.

i have a cell array of name txt in which there are 1x67 variable names,when am using the above mentioned logic,am getting the following error "The VariableNames property is a cell array of character vectors. To assign multiple variable names, specify names in

a string array or a cell array of character vectors."

Am not sure how to rectify this

When i created a column with 1x67 cells manually then the logic is working but when am using this command its not working

[fname,fpath] = uigetfile({'*.xls';'*.xlsx'});

[num,txt,raw] = xlsread( fullfile(fpath,fname),'WorkSheet' );

In txt file the variable names is getting stored and when am using the logic mentioned above its not working but when am manually creating a cell array its working ,am not able to understand why this is happening

Is that still true?

Variable names with dots in them are permitted, R2019b and later (if I remember correctly.) You did not happen to indicate which release you are using.

I was right, it was R2019b that the feature was added. https://www.mathworks.com/help/releases/R2019b/matlab/release-notes.html

For example,

T = table((1:5).')

T = 5×1 table

T.Properties.VariableNames{1} = 'A.B.C'

T = 5×1 table

Yes,you are right,actually now i know the dot is not making issue in my code there are some empty columns in the large dataset which i removed along with dots but its strange that if i use isvarname command for variable with dot in it ,it returns ans as 0,logically if matlab is allowing dot from 2019 version the value should return as 1

isvarname() talks about MATLAB variable names, not about what is a valid table() variable name. As of R2019b, most character vectors are valid table() variable names.
