Matlab installation on external hard drive

Hello everyone,

I was looking for an external hard drive to buy, in order to install MATLAB and I found this one that could be good.

However, I was advised to look for one with thunderbolt connection (which is really expensive), since I don't know if the one I found has sufficient information speed transmission (i.e. 130 mb) to run smoothly matlab scripts

I have a macbook pro bought in october 2019 (attached photo below).

Could someone help me out to suggest me what do?
