Communication architecture Parallel toolbox and Matlab Parallel server

Hi,

I am trying to understand how do the parallel toolbox and Matlab Parallel server work. I failed to find, in the documentation, what is exactly the communication architecture used in the parallel toolbox (so locally, on my computer), and in the Matlab Parallel server. Anyone that knows about it, or can refer me to the right documentation?
