I am trying to download MATLAB R2021a and I have Fedora 34. I have heard that there are some issues here and have found some resources to help.
For example, I've renamed the libcrypto.so.1 file that many people suggest for Fedora 34.
Some also suggest that GNOME is a problem and I have used this link as well
The current issue that I am getting now is that when running
sudo ./install
then the installer gui does know what to put for "login name" and I am unable to edit the text box
when running
./install
then I obviously cannot write to /usr/local/MATLAB/R2021a (or even make the directory if it doesn't already exists)
please let me know if more information is needed

I´ve used
sudo ./install
for the installation of matlab on fedora34.
To solve the issue with the "login name" I´ve clicked in the input field for the login name.
Then I used the shortcut
CRTL + ALT + RIGHT
to switch to the right workspace and
CRTL + ALT + LEFT
to switch back to the installation workspace.
Now you should be ready to write your login name in the input field and finish the installation process.
Note, that you can define any other shortcut in the "settings" - "keyboard options" for switching of the workspaces, if the upper shortcuts are not working.
It worked fine for me and I hope for you as well.

This also worked for me with R2023b on Debian Testing (Trixie).

How about running a VM of debian and install matlab there?
