Why do I receive an "External Mode Open Protocol CheckData command failed" error when running one of the files in the Self-Balancing Motorcycle Engineering Kit R2?

When running hardwareModel_5.slx using the instructions provided in the Self-Balancing Motorcycle kit, we keep seeing the below error. We're not sure why we see this DTO DAQ error the most.
External Mode Open Protocol CheckData command failed
Caused by:
Multiple errors detected.
XCP Master internal error: DTO DAQ No out of range
Error detected while trying to disconnect Simulink from target application.
Error returned by XCP master: XCP Master internal error: No slave connected
The system will start up and the fly wheel spins immediately when enabled, but it seems to run until the motorcycle realizes it's "falling" and then fails and provides the error immediately. We have tried editing settings in the Solver menu, and it ran once correctly, but the next time it still gave the error.
Other errors we've seen are:
External Mode Open Protocol CheckData command failed
Caused by:
Multiple errors detected.
XCP master serial error: serial port send error
Error detected while trying to disconnect Simulink from target application.
Error returned by XCP master: XCP master serial error: serial port send error
and
External Mode Open Protocol CheckData command failed
Caused by:
Multiple errors detected.
XCP Master internal error: Busy(0) or no timeout(2) for 252
Error detected while trying to disconnect Simulink from target application.
Error returned by XCP master: XCP Master internal error: No slave connected
