I am MS Scholar. I have to get a new laptop. I am confused between AMD Ryzen 7 5700u and Intel i5 11th gen processor. I don't know whether AMD processor supports AVX or AVX2 instruction set. So please suggest which I shall go with?

For which purpose? Matlab is running on both systems.

I've no klew re: chipsets, but go for all the memory your budget can possibly afford -- MATLAB is definitely memory intensive; in order to get best performance it needs to be able to hold all data in memory at once. While it has facilities in software to handle datasets that are larger than can be held in memory, there's a hefty overhead in using them in performance.

That Ryzen does support AVX2.
If you can figure out exactly which i5 then you can compare benchmark. It looks like they might be very similar.

Userbenchmark is known to cherry-pick the method in favor of Intel. If you get a more reputable benchmark site, the R7 outperforms the i5: link. Single-threaded performance is similar (with a minor edge for Intel), multicore is better on Ryzen (given the double thread-count).
So I would second the suggestion from @dpb: get the system with the largest amount of fast RAM, unless you have a specific workflow that favors multi-core workloads.
