Why do I receive an error when using the xPC Target Explorer?

I sometimes receive the following error message when using the xPC Target Explorer:

 Too many outputs requested, Most likely cause is missing [] around left hand side that has a comma separated list expansion

This bug has been fixed for Release 14 SP1 (R14SP1). For previous releases, read below for any possible workarounds:

You are receiving this error because xPC Target Explorer does not allow spaces in the target PC names. To work around this issue, try renaming the target PC label in the xPC Target Explorer without using spaces in the new name.
