Dynamic braking of three phase induction motor

Dynamic braking is a method of stopping an induction motor quickly by converting the motor's kinetic energy into heat via resistors.
How It Works:
- Power is cut off to the stator windings (AC supply is disconnected).
- A DC voltage is then applied to the stator terminals.
- This creates a stationary magnetic field in the stator.
- The rotor is still rotating, so it cuts through the stator's magnetic field.
- This induces current in the rotor bars, which generates a braking torque.
- The energy is dissipated as heat in the rotor and braking resistors.
📘 Key Features:
- No reversal of motor rotation.
- Independent of load type (works for fans, conveyors, etc.).
- Braking torque is proportional to rotor speed — strongest at high speed, decreases as the motor slows down.
