This toolbox contains several functions that generate a virtual firn core from a time serie of temperature and precipitation amount.

The main function (Profile_gen) uses time series of temperature and precipitation to create an example of the expected isotopic signal retrieved in a firn core in Antarctica, after precipitation intermittency has aliased part of the high frequency (annual and higher) signal, and diffusion has acted as a low pass filter.

An example of an input data file is included (input_data.mat), that is able to create a snow pit for the site of EDML (75.0°S, 0.1°E), similar to Fig. 2 e and 2.h of Casado et al, Clim Past, 2020.

All the functions which compute the diffusivity are transcribed from the R package FirnR (Münch and Laepple, The Cryosphere, 2018).
