comparing graph/plot profiles

I was wondering if there is a way of comparing 2 graph plots for similarity of profiles?

As in I have one huge plot/graph. I get another plot/graph and I have to see which part/section of the first plot looks similar in profile to the second plot. The length of the two plots can be different and the profiles can be similar, no need to be identical. So if I come to know which section is most similar I will get the corresponding x-axis values. Also need to see/calculate the deviation as the plots won't be exactly identical. I'm thinking of a way of doing it other than just visually inspecting and seeing similarities.

Your question is lacking in specifics, so I can’t reply in specifics. If you have the Signal Processing Toolbox, see if the xcorr function does what you want.
