when can we expect this to help reading, plotting the data from image? it seems very nice and handy tool :) for extracting values from image based graphs and plots, and export those data...

There are some File Exchange conntributions that can do that.
Two that appear to be well-regarded are Graph Digitizer and the slightly older GRABIT.
