Installation issues with MATLAB R2015a on Windows 10

Currently having problems with installing MATLAB R2015a on my Windows 10 laptop. After downloading and running matlab_R2015a_win64.exe, the installation window never appears. All I see is a Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable window pop-up for a few seconds, before the installation automatically exits out. Is this related to Microsoft Visual C++? How can I resolve this issue?

If you can install R2015a, you should be able to install R2015b on the same license. Do that instead, since from what I understand, R2015b doesn’t have the problems R2015a did. I’ve installed R2015b on a Windows 10 laptop without problems.

Well, there is the possibility that the user's software maintenance expired after R2015a, or that the user purchased a Student Version and refused SMS.

Yes I purchased a Student version, how would that affect the installation process?

I have a Commercial License, so if I get ‘a’, I get ‘b’ as well. I thought it worked that way for all licenses.

The commercial license goes on the basis of buying SMS (Software Maintenance Service) for one year (365/366 days) relative to the anniversary of your initial purchase.

If you happened to have purchased in the last quarter of the year to the first quarter of the next, the initial purchase would cover the then-current 'b' release (because you purchased it), and the next 'a' release in spring (no more than 6 months after your 'b' purchase), and the 'b' version after that (because it would have been released less than 1 year after your initial purchase.) After that, yearly SMS would end up covering a 'a' and then a 'b'.

But if you happened to purchase in the second or third quarter of the year, the initial purchase would cover the then-current 'a' release, the fall 'b' release (no more than 6 months later), and the 'a' version after that (less than 1 year after your initial purchase.) After that yearly SMS would end up covering a 'b' and then an 'a', so if you stopped SMS your final release would be an 'a' release.

Olivier Jin -- the fact that you have Student Version would not affect your installation compared to a commercial Named-User license. There are additional types of licenses available for the Commercial or Academic license that are more complicated to install.

However, trying R2015a or earlier in Windows 10 is not recommended; the earlier versions rely upon redistributables and compilers that are incompatible with Windows 10.
