bmp image related problem

b_1=imread('3 (1).bmp');
b_2=imresize(b_1,[42 24]);
NewTemplates_2=mat2cell(letter_1,42);
celldisp(NewTemplates_2);

while executing the following statement an array with elements other than 0 and 1 is displaying.

If i change

b_2=imresize(b_1,[42 24]);

to

b_2=imresize(b_1,[42 24]);

the code results in the error :

Number of input vector arguments, 2, 
does not match the input matrix's number of dimensions, 3.

Please help me.

actually i am working on a project that require template matching in the last step.template matching is done with characters of pixel 24*42.while using this image '3 (1).bmp' i got the following error

Second Your original Images(3 Dimensional) is already in [42 24], why you go for it again, I execute it, the
