I take my road bike to interesting cycling venues and ride it. Sometimes there's an organized event, other times I plan my own route or just wander. Nearby water (rivers, lakes, ocean) is good, mountains are usually great; both = fantastic.
Hard to pick a fave, but I'll go with the Cherohala Challenge (starts and finishes in Tennessee, but passes into North Carolina for a while). Most scenic so far is the Maroon Bells, probably the most photographed spot in Colorado. Also in CO is Mt. Evans, literally the most breathtaking because you ride up the highest paved road in North America to reach the summit. The view's not bad, either.
