He earned his B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Annamalai University, an M.E. in Power Systems Engineering (Gold Medalist), and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Anna University. He also completed a postgraduate artificial intelligence and machine learning program at the University of Texas at Austin.

My primary research interests are in the area of pattern recognition and machine learning. Within these areas, my work focuses on developing novel strategies to formalize, explain and visualize the pattern in data. My work encompasses different case studies. I worked on many aspects of feature selection in machine learning introducing the concept of graph-based feature selection. Such a framework is prone to parallelization making this family of algorithms highly scalable (i.e., suitable for Big Data analysis). Another important aspect I dealt with is the real-time factor of such techniques. This framework turns out to be also suitable for visual object tracking, demonstrating to improve tracking performance while maintaining high frame rates. Finally, I have also worked on soft-biometrics by taking into account user-centric aspects, such as personality.

Dr. Hui Yang is a Professor in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. Prior to joining Penn State in 2015, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at the University of South Florida from 2009 to 2015. He is a recipient of prestigious NSF CAREER award, Fulbright award, as well as Outstanding Faculty Award at the University of South Florida.

I am an Assistant Professor at KTH Stockholm in mechatronics with focus on robot design. My research interests are focused on the design, development, and control of autonomous robotic systems targeting interdisciplinary applications, ranging from soft and compliant robots for safe interactions, exoskeletons for motion assistance, to climbing robotic solutions for industrial inspection purposes. I have been involved in the creation, technical implementation, scientific or overall management of several European and National R&D projects, while my teaching experience involves mechatronics, robotics, industrial automation and control engineering courses. I have designed and taught multiple iterations of special studies on automatic control and bioinspired robotics, involving advanced applications of actuation design, implementation and control for undergraduate students.

My second M.Sc. degree in Structural Engineering is from the Bosporus (Bogazici) University in Turkey. My doctorate degree in Structural Engineering (major) and in Geotechnical Engineering (minor) is from the University of California, Davis. My postdoctoral studies were at the University of California, Berkeley.
